To hug or not to hug, that is the question

So I found myself in an awkward situation after dinner the other night. We had gone out with a large group of friends. Half we knew and half we were introduced to that night. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the company of all. However, at the end of the night when we were saying goodbye hugs started going around.

My question is, given it's a first meeting do you hug or not hug? What do you think?
