What a Croc*!
Okay, I give up. What is up with these hideous, plastic Crocs clogs? I'm seeing them everywhere these days. Middle aged mothers, high school kids, even Jared Leto was sporting a pair of silver ones for heavens sake. I mean, I know the boy has fashion issues. Let's face it, I think he's sporting the same hair as Whitney from Pop Candy. However, this does not bode well.Say it with me people, clogs are not fashionable. Clogs are for old ladies. Plastic clogs are for old ladies. You cannot make something hip. It has to take on a life of it's own. I'm out to kill this fad single handedly. Who's with me?!
Mas Moss?
I opened up my W magazine today to discover that Kate Moss is back. Just about a year ago she was submerged in a cocaine scandal, brought on in part by her ill thought out relationship with uber-druggy and Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty. Photographed snorting mounds of coke off cd's during his recording session, she was summarily dumped Burberry, H&M, and threatened with losing custody of her 3 year old daughter.Kate promptly decamped to America. Smart move. Scotland Yard rethought it's initial reaction, deciding it didn't have enough "evidence" to prosecute her. Apparently they thought it was baby powder or perhaps cornstarch. Richard Branson and Roberto Cavalli swooped in offering photo shoots and redemption. What followed is shocking. I've seen her in at least 3 different ad campaigns, and I'm not even a third of the way into the magazine. She's channeling a naked hippy chick for David Yurman, fresh faced and childlike for Dior, and a kohl eyed Factory Girl for Versace. What wonders rehab can do for one's career! It is my understanding that she went from a $7 million a year model to a $21 million a year model. Nice work if you can get it my friends! Let's just hope she dumps Pete soon...
Rocky Mountain high
I recently did some time at altitude in Denver. I went for the art, but found so much more. Discoveries of note:
Eat
Adam's Cafe - (Manitou, CO) - totally organic and totally delicious. I'm not usually a fan of granola-head cafes, but this one has earned it's rep. The wait for a table was an hour long, but worth it. Ingredients are fresh, venue is cozy and you'll definitely leave feeling satisfied.
Vesta Dipping Grill (1822 Blake St.) - a warehouse district restaurant near all the art galleries. Their schtick is that everything on the menu can be dipped in a homemade sauce. The meats are so delicious and excellently prepared they stand on their own.
Drink
Reiver's Bar - in Washington Park's fabulous little boutique neighborhood. It's a lovely little outdoor cafe for beers and quesadillas.
Lola (1575 Boulder St) - whatever Lola wants...you know the song. Well Lola in Denver is a mexican restaurant. It's bar is a neighborhood favorite on Sat. afternoons. Just across the river from downtown, we hung out for beers and discovered they have guacamole made fresh at the table. With spices and a number of ingredients I couldn't possibly guess at it comes out smoky perfection.
Shop
Urban Lifestyle (1720 Wazee St) - In the heart of the warehouse district an oasis of cool home furnishing, frames & candles.
Indulge
Denver MoCA (1275 19th St) - The museum of contemporary art is actually a collection of galleries all featuring a different show. A secret so well kept even our native friends didn't know it was there. The main collection is small, but intellectually stimulating.
The Woodhouse Day Spa - we stayed years ago when this was a bed & breakfast. Now it's a lush day spa
One word of caution, do not under any circumstances believe the hype about the Brown Palace. We stayed the weekend and were put through a smelly bathroom, midnight fire alarm and WiFi that went up and down like a yo-yo.
If I were a rich girl
I just visited Glam.com to check out all the Fall collections. If money was no object, here's what I'd take home: - BCBG Max Axria's black "Bonny & Clyde" dress - Betsey Johnson's black strapless velvet cocktail dress with fuschia bow - Calvin Klein's Red chiffon v-neck dress - Carolina Herrara's white boatneck tromp l'oile dress - Diane von Furstenberg's black & white 40's suit - Donna Karan's burgundy obi dress & white cashmere coat - Nanette Lepore's burgundy v-neck gown & grey halter gown - Ralph Lauren's cable knit sweater cape Add a pair of fabulous boots, a pencil skirt and a wide belt and call me fabulous! Oh please dear Fates let me win the lottery soon!
Welcome to the D list
I heard the most cringe-worthy quote today... Anna Nicole Smith, in a message reaching out to Brittany (sic) Spears on her Web site: "If you wanted to be friends, I would so much love to hang out with you. I think you're totally cool and I think we're going to have our babies about the same time."
